„Discovering Paderewski” Festival in Lviv is dedicated to Ignacy Jan Paderewski- a pianist, world-renowned composer who unites Polish, Ukrainian and American cultures, Festival is organized by Polish-Ukrainian Foundation of Ignacy Jan Paderewski since 2012. Each year program includes concerts and plays of famous Artists from the whole Word and it is based on the works of musicians who have played an important role in Paderewski’s establishing as a composer as well as contemporary Artists who refer to Paderewski in their own creations.

By means of the festival its organizers want to show the exceptional nature of the creative personality of Ignacy Jan Paderewski and value of his musical heritage, return the proper rank to his music, and to cover the joint musical heritage of Poland, Ukraine and the United States in his activities. The figure of Ignacy Jan Paderewski is closely associated with Lviv. Honorary citizen of the city, virtuoso musician, legendary pianist, famous composer who received the support of the fascinated Lviv public, artist who actively expressed his artistic and life creed.

Three previous editions of the Festival had had an enthusiastic reception from the finest artist as well as international media and the public. Outstanding virtuosos,and great composers like f.e. Krzysztof Penderecki, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Myroslav Skoryk, Leszek Możdżer, Anna Maria Jopek, Olga Pasichnyk, Karol Radziwonowicz, Marianna Humetska, Peter Toth, Warszawska Opera Kameralna had already presented their works including solo programs and common projects during Lviv Festival.

The central event of the last edition of Festival (2014) was the project “From Paderewski to Penderecki,” which was held on November 16 in Lviv Opera House. Two legends of Polish and Ukrainian contemporary music art, Krzysztof Penderecki and Myroslav Skoryk met for the first time on the stage. Penderecki conducted his work Credo performed by choir Dumka, children’s choir Radunytsia, orchestra INSO-Lviv, and Polish soloists. The final concert of the last edition of the festival was an outstanding performance of pianist Leszek Mozdzer – the leader of Polish jazz stage, a winner of many music awards who came to Lviv in order to pay tribute to his legendary compatriot.

The constant component of Festival is the awarding ceremony of Paderewski Prize for popularization of the heritage of Ignacy Jan Padrewski and contribution to the development of Ukrainian-Polish cultural cooperation organized by Polish-Ukrainian Foundation of Ignacy Jan Paderewski. Among the Paderewski Prize laureats of the last year ( 2014 ) was the artistic director of The Sembrich Memorial Association ( Bolton Landing, NY), american composer Richard Wargo.
